Ollie Harton and Camille Smith Secure Defense Verdict in Georgia Lung Cancer Case

On April 17, 2014, HPTY received a defense verdict for a client that manufactures fluid sealing devices. The plaintiff, a South Carolina resident, alleged that his lung cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos from HPTY’s client’s products onboard the U.S.S. Princeton and at various Georgia Power plants throughout the state. 

Ollie Harton and Camille Smith of the firm’s Atlanta office tried the case for HPTY’s client before the Honorable Kimberly A. Esmond Adams.  At closing, Plaintiffs’ counsel sought $6 million in compensatory damages.

The jury returned a defense verdict after six hours of deliberation.

HPTY’s experts were Dr. Victor Roggli, Dr. James Crapo and John Henshaw, CIH. Plaintiffs’ experts were Dr. Jill Ohar, David Rosner, Ph.D., and William Ewing, CIH.
