HPTY Wins Summary Judgment in Los Angeles Take-Home Exposure Case
Ed Slaughter, Macy Chan and Stephanie Bowlby won summary judgment on behalf of their product manufacturer client in Los Angeles County Superior Court. In this bystander, take-home exposure case, Plaintiff claimed that he encountered asbestos fibers released from HPTY’s client’s products as a by-stander and that these asbestos fibers were then carried home on his clothes and body and exposed Decedent. HPTY conducted extensive discovery and investigation which ultimately revealed that HPTY's client's products were of the type that did not contain asbestos - thereby negating all of Plaintiffs’ claims. The Honorable Emilie Elias, judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, granted HPTY’s summary judgment motion in its entirety.
Following the summary judgment win, HPTY negotiated reimbursement of $13,000 in costs recoverable under California law.
