Ed Slaughter will co-chair the American Conference Institute’s 12th Annual Advanced Forum on Asbestos Claims & Litigation Conference. The conference will be held January 26-27, 2012 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

Chris Collier has been asked by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) to serve as a faculty member for the December 2011 "Deposition Skills" Program at Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.

Al Parnell will be a participant in the ethics panel and a speaker at the VADA Annual Meeting CLE.

Ed Slaughter will speak at the Texas Lawyer In-House Summit. His topic will be "An Ethical Alternative:  Application of The Model Rules of Professional Conduct in Alternative Fee Arrangements."

Christine Mast will speak at the Title Standards and Malpractive Prevention CLE for the State Bar of Georgia. Her topic will be Title Standards and Lawyer Liability.

Ed Slaughter will speak at the 14th Annual National Asbestos Litigation Conference. He will address asbestos claims based on automotive work.

H. Lane Young will speak at the Perrin's 2011 Asbestos Litigation Conference. He will speak on voir dire from a defense perspective.

Kim M. Jackson will be a panelist speaker at the 2011 Fiduciary Law Institute in St. Simons Island, Georgia. The topic of discussion for the panel will be Facebook, Twitter, Your Practice -- The Ethical Implications of Social Media.

Ed Slaughter will be speaking on the topic of Implementing Alternative Fee Agreements--Challenges and Concerns for Clients and Carriers.  The event will be presented via webcast by the DRI Lawyer's Professional & Ethics Committee.  

HPTY is co-sponsoring the DFW Chapter of Association of Corporate Counsel Annual In-House Symposium. Ed Slaughter is scheduled to speak on Litigation Cost Control.

Al Parnell to speak at the Council on Litigation Management's Cinco de Mayo event. His topic will be "Advancing the Working Relationship through Four Decades of Experience."

Ed Slaughter will speak at the 4th Annual Emerging Trends in Asbestos Litigation Conference put on by HB Litigation Conferences. He will address the growing trend of claims against employers - both as an offset for defendants and as an affirmative claim for relief by plaintiffs. 

Al Parnell will co-moderate the Southeast Asbestos Litigation Conference put on by HarrisMartin. The conference is April 6, 2011 in Charleston, South Carolina. 

Al Parnell will speak at the Cutting-Edge Issues in Asbestos Litigation Conference put on by Perrin Conferences. He will participate in a panel discussion on "Asbestos Litigation in 2011 & Beyond - Current and Emerging Trends."

David Marshall will speak at the 19th Annual Product Liability Seminar sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. His topic is “Asbestos Litigation:  Where It’s Been and Where It’s Going.”

Robert Thompson will speak at the ALFA International Client Seminar. He will participate in a panel discussion on "String of Pearls" highlighting recent developments in case law and litigation practice. The seminar is March 3-6, 2011 in Hollywood, Florida. 

Christine Mast and Kim Jackson spoke at a seminar on Abusive Litigation put on by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia on February 4, 2011.

Evelyn Davis will serve as committee chair of the 2011 DRI seminar "Sharing Success - a Seminar for Women Lawyers" in Miami Beach, Florida from February 3-4, 2011.

Al Parnell addressed a group of attorneys at the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association Trial Academy on the topic of “Taking Responsibility for Your Own Career.”  The speech included tips on professionalism, marketing and personal advancement as a lawyer.

Kim Jackson will speak on ethical considerations related to attorneys' fees, avoiding conflicts of interest and confidentiality - what should or should not be disclosed.

On November 10, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel in San Diego, California, Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young will be co-sponsoring the second annual Asbestos Defense Strategic Summit 2010.

Ed Slaughter will address Texas in-house counsel at the 2010 Dallas In-House Summit put on by Texas Lawyer magazine and held at the Belo Mansion in Dallas, Texas. His topic will be:  "Bending the Iron Triangle:  A New Model for Predictability and Cost Control in Litigation."

Rob Gilbreath will be arguing a case in the Supreme Court of Texas on October 12, 2010. The appeal arises out of a criminal contempt finding for perjury during a deposition.

Elaine Shofner will be speaking at seminar on Expert Testimony in State and Federal Court in Georgia on October 1, 2010. Her topic will be “How to Cross Medical Causation Experts.”  The program is put on by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) and will be held at the State Bar of Georgia in Atlanta.

On September 14, 2010, Allen Lockerman will speak at the Asbestos Litigation Conference held at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco, California. The topic of his speech will be "Medicare Update: The Impact of Medicare Reporting Rules on Asbestos Litigation."

Kim Jackson is speaking in a CLE Webinar put on by Strafford Publications, Inc. on August 24, 2010 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. EST. The topic is "Ending the Attorney-Client Relationship: Ethical and Fiduciary Duties."  The panel discussion will include a review of the best practices to avoid ethics violations and malpractice claims.

Al Parnell moderated a panel discussion at Perrin Conferences Asbestos Litigation Seminar, "Cutting-Edge Issues in Asbestos Litigation" in Beverly Hills, California.

Kelly Hagemann spoke at Harris Martin's Asbestos Conference for Associates and Paralegals on January 29, 2010 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza in Los Angeles, California.

On November 11, 2009 from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach Florida, Hawkins & Parnell will be co-sponsoring the inaugural Asbestos Defense Strategic Summit.

Rob Gilbreath spoke at the 25th Annual Advanced Personal Injury Law Course in Houston, Texas on October 8, 2009 and again in South Padre Island, Texas on October 22, 2009. The topic of Rob's speech was "The Charge Conference: Defendant's Perspective."

Robert Thackston moderated a panel discussion at the National Asbestos Litigation Conference in San Francisco, California on September 23-24, 2009. The panel was an interactive discussion with actual jurors from a key California asbestos case. Topics included the key factors contributing to the jury's decision, a jury's impression of experts and their understanding of evidence, and key judicial rulings impacting the case.
